Personal development skills can be enhanced by learning new methods, getting inspired from people around you,
adopting new talents, and improving your existing skills. The following guidelines can help you to progress in your
personal development skills and improve your life purpose:
Overcome your fears: to come past your fears, the first thing is to recognize them. Once you get to know them,
work on them by practicing. For instance, if you are afraid of talking in public, join a class or a group that
encourages you to talk. This way, you gain confidence and get rid of your insecurities.

Be creative: being creative and doing something new builds confidence and allows you to make mistakes.
You accept your flaws and work to improve them. For instance, learn a new language, use a new workout technique,
or simply create a new recipe.
Meditate: Many people use meditation to achieve clarity and awareness to alleviate anxiety and distress.
Meditation may assist you in focusing on your own growth and goals in a healthy, happy, and tranquil manner.
Even taking a break from work or arranging some alone time helps you relax and focus.
Spend time with others: interacting with different types of people helps you learn various personalities.
Also, it enhances your mindset, helps you understand how to communicate with new people, therefore,
developing your interpersonal skills and confidence.
The Ted Talk below addresses the Dark Side of Personal Development….I found it interesting and enlightening, perhaps you will too.
If you are considering improving your Personal Development Skills my suggestion would be to check out our next Master Key Experience.
It is fun and entertaining as we work in groups to make improvements and it is all done on a Scholarship basis.

Love it! Love the video. Great questions at the end “What do I want to create? Where do I want to go? Where do I want to grow?” Catch yourself every time you hear yourself asking what you need to fix or improve, because that’s reinforcing lack, and that something’s wrong. Good stuff!… and yes, MKE can be an awesome next step wherever you are in your journey. 🙂
Joan, this is a fantastic blog and a perfect TED Talk added in. Keep sharing your experiences!
Thank you:)
Joan, I appreciated taking some time to think about improving my current personal development skills. Thank you so much! The video was so helpful. I was reminded that growth is innate but that self-judgment will never get me to who I want to be. “Love yourself forward” and go within and listen to your own inner guidance were great reminders. Be growth oriented, not goal oriented.
Love what you said, Shirley “…self-judgment will never get me to who I want to be.” Let’s come from Unconditional Love of Self! Paradoxically, that will get us to our best self. I’m getting closer all the time to absolutely loving myself unconditionally, radically. 🙂
Joan, Beautiful insights and love the TED Talk. Thanks, it’s quite interesting.
Love this! And video makes a great point not to come at my personal development from a viewpoint of lack. Same as law of attraction, if I focus on needing to “fix” something, or focus on what is “lacking” I am reinforcing that lack. I am wired for growth and so is everyone. As Haanel says, I am “whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy.” I am perfect for where I am at this moment in my journey, and from here I can choose to grow in several directions! Love it!
Joan, good for you for talking about how we can improve our personal development skills. Thank you. From your blog rover friend John.
This is a really interesting great blog Joan. Thanks for sharing and giving us some food for thought
What a great post! I’ve noticed a lot of people get stuck in the self development books and never get out of them. They have to take action. As we all know the old saying is knowledge is power yet knowledge is only powerful if you put it to use.
Thank you Joan for thoughtful blog on personal development and I certainly did find the Ted talk interesting – loved the idea of focussing on growth rather than goals.
Great ideas to use to improve our personal development skills… I especially liked the guideline to recognize fears and then practice what you fear to overcome it.
The video was amazing! Thank you for sharing that! What Suzanne described “you are the expert and authority on your own life”, is so like the approach taken in the Master Key Experience. Her advice to look inside vs. to the outside world, and so many other things she brought up matched what we learn in MKE–it’s wonderful to hear others also advocating for us to be self-directed thinkers! 🙂
